PACCE Goes to Wherever the Patient Is
The physician, patient, and family determine what level of care the patient will need following the acute-care
phase (surgery). Statistics support that 60%-70% of all patients can return home directly from the acute-care facility and
receive their physical therapy, wound care, and rehabilitation from home care providers or as an outpatient in
a rehabilitation facility. The remaining 30%-40% are usually referred to an inpatient subacute–care or rehabilitation
facility.
The PACCE team provides expert home health aids, skilled nursing, wound care, and physical/occupational therapists
in the home or subacute–care facility. The Patient Consultant is available to provide answers to questions,
help arrange for services, and offer support and encouragement.
Once there has been sufficient healing, and the surgeon medically clears the patient for a prosthesis, the decision
is made as to what type of prosthesis is most suited to the patient. This decision is made by the PACCE team, but always
in collaboration with the patient and family.
The Ortho Remedy prosthetist visits the patient in their environment (home or facility) to evaluate, measure, cast
or digitize for the prescribed prosthesis. Visits to the patient's home or rehab facility are provided at no additional cost to
the patient (until he/she is able to travel). From the date of measurement, the prosthesis can be
delivered within 48 hours.
Patients are gait trained and taught how to walk with their new prosthesis, instructed about proper prosthesis management,
and how to care for the residual limb. Now the rehabilitation process is completed and the patient is ready to resume
his/her normal life. As the patient becomes more active and the residual limb continues to shrink, The Ortho
Remedy is available to make any necessary adjustments to the prosthesis, always ensuring a proper fit, thus
maximizing the patient's comfort and activity potential.
