The PACCE Team:

The Physician: The patient's physician calls the PACCE hotline to put the program into action as soon as the decision is made that an amputation is necessary. However, anyone can call the PACCE hotline (201-943-2277): the patient, family members or friends, hospital social services, or the subacute-care facility. The sooner we reach the person facing amputation...the sooner the mystery is dispelled...the better it is for the patient and his/her family.

The Ortho Remedy Center for Prosthetic Excellence: A full-service prosthetic (artificial limbs) and orthotic (braces) laboratory on the cutting edge of technology serving the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT) since 1976.

We are the proud inventors of the Endoflex® a light-weight, monolithic prosthetic leg that can accommodate both above-knee and below-knee amputees.

The Endoflex® The OttoBock C-Leg® Designer Orthotics Upper Extremity Prosthesis

Tom Valenti, CPO, owner of The Ortho Remedy was the first prosthetic clinician in the tri-state area certified to fit and program the C-leg® by OttoBock Healthcare for above-knee amputees. This highly technological prosthesis is designed to give above-knee amputees maximum independence and confidence. It represents a quantum leap in prosthetics and a vital improvement over all other prosthetic knees.

Tom is committed to providing quality custom orthotics and prosthetics and service to all of his patients at a time when they need it most.

"People heal more rapidly, and learn to use the prosthesis more quickly when they can sleep in their own beds, sit in their favorite chair, and channel surf with their own remote. The goal of PACCE is to get people home as soon as medically possible."

The Patient Consultant: Diane Hammerle, an experienced amputee and ACA*-Certified Peer Visitor, provides the patient and family with the information they need and options they have, so they can make informed decisions about their aftercare. The Patient Consultant can also address any concerns or questions that the patient and/or family have and reassure them about their future.

"Patients come through the surgery so much better when they go into it understanding that amputation isn't the end of their life as they know it...that if they work hard through their rehab and gait training, they will be able to do most of what they did before the amputation. It's fear of the unknown that makes amputation so much more traumatic than it has to be."

The Amputee Coalition of America (ACA) is an organization dedicated to reaching out to people with limb loss and empowering them through education, support and advocacy. (To open a window that will take you to the ACA Website click on the ACA link.)

Subacute or rehabilitation facilities: PACCE works with or can recommend the best rehabilitation facilities in the tri-state area. Whether as an inpatient or as an outpatient, these facilities can provide wound care and complete rehabilitation services. Inpatient facilities are recommended according to each patient's rehabilitation needs and the level of post op care he/she requires.

In-home wound care, skilled nursing, and physical therapy agencies: If the patient is medically cleared by the physician and has support at home, the patient can return home directly from the acute-care facility and receive all of the qualified postsurgical services they need in their most familiar, comfortable environment. At-home wound care, home health aids, visiting nurses, and even at-home physical therapy can all be arranged if the patient is medically cleared by his/her physician.
